Being dutiful to our parents is our responsibility as a child

Every human being are born to love and care for each other. This innate quality (loving kindness) will naturally urge one to fulfill his role of duty. It is not hard to realize this from the shocking news of the great earthquake happened last May in Sichuan, China. When we watch the tragedies of their experiences in the news, tears just keep falling. Many people take action right away to help them out. People around the world donate money to assist them. Many volunteers even risk their lives by entering this disaster area to offer helping hands in any way. Why? Because we are born to love each other and care about each other even thought we don’t know each other. This comes from our innate love so great that we will do our best until the last moment of our lives. One mother, before she pass away from this disaster, grab the last breath and leave a message to her children in her cellular phone. “No matter what happen, mommy always love you!”

There’s another Mom, fulfilling her duty even after her last breath by wrapping her baby with her body. By the time rescue team dig out the rocks, they discover this mother has already smashed to death for long time but the baby still survive due to mommy’s body protection and the milk from mommy’s breast.

As Teacher Tsai always remind us, “There are two things that cannot wait --- being dutiful to one’s parents and doing good deeds (or to practice virtue).” Why? Because majority of us can’t predict the future. It is possible that someone we love or even ourselves will die suddenly just like that without any notice. If you had been watching the photos of these disaster victims, you will notice that most of them are not ready for this. There must be a lot of regrets in them. Now look back at ourselves. If I am to leave this world right at this moment, am I ready? Would I leave in peace with no regret? Have I do my best to love all while there’s still chance to do so? We should start thinking about it. Then, we will truly be sincere and take this seriously.
